Do you have a talent? Do you feel untalented? And how does a person become talented?

I would love to start with a quote:

What he is really trying to say here is that a talent is relative. If someone plays a guitar or draws and they are talented, you cannot compare yourself to them and say to yourself “I’m not talented”.

Compare and judge

We often fall into the trap of judging and comparing ourselves to others.

When in fact if we look deeper we can find our true talent, which is something that we enjoy doing.

If you shift your mind from thinking that talent is “what the world defines it”, to looking inside at what you enjoy doing, you will be surprised to know that there is something unique about you and you are the only one to know how to do it in your own unique way.

How a person becomes talented

Having said that, how is the talent formed and evolved?
The answer is very simple when you do something that you enjoy, naturally, you will repeat it again and again till you become good at it, and then someone says to you “you’re good at it!”.

This will enforce your feeling that you’re talented, and you’ll love what you do more and more and you’ll practice at it more till you really become talented.

From there you could turn this talent into a business.

What you can do to find your talent or what you’re good at

1. Revisit your past successes

Most likely you've already accomplished a few things in your life and you downplay them.

Weather it is a position at work that you excel at, or being a supportive friend,

take a moment and look at these things and evaluate them.

Here is a good resource on how you could evaluate these achievements.

This can provide clues to your talents.

2.Ask your friends and family

Another way to get know your best qualities is asking friends or family,

They appreciate us for what value we bring to their lives.

Take time for a deep conversation with them and ask them what they think your talents are.

Some of their feedback may surprise you. Because we rarely take time to tell our friends and family why we appreciate them.

3.Be curious and try out new things

The reason for this one is pretty simple: how can you find your talent if you don't try new things?

And finding a talent, hobby or something you like doing could take a long time to try new stuff, and that's OK and natural.

Try to talk to people who are doing fun things you are curious about and see if it fits you.

4.Find a passion and commit to the journey of doing it

No one is an expert at anything without first putting in the work. Figure out what you’re passionate about and take the time to become good at that thing.

The key is to focus on something that truly energizes you. That way you’ll be more likely to enjoy the process of learning and improving your skills in that area.

Here is a great Ted talk you could check.

5.Join a positive community of similar minded people and surround yourself with a topic you are passionate about

After you identify something that interests you, join similar people and surround yourself with the topic to get fully into it then you will be able to know if it's what you're looking at.

Join an online community, listen to people who are experts at the topic, in today's world it's easy to find such stuff.

To sum it all up

Talent is nothing more than something we enjoy doing, and we put long hours of practice into it.
